This course offers participants the opportunity to train for real-world scenarios and gain an invaluable practical knowledge of firearms, ammunition and their effective terminal ballistics in a variety of situations.
Day 1 - Theory
1. UK firearms safety &
Legislation
2. Firearm handling incl.: rifle,
shotgun, handgun and
ammunition
3. Ballistics and bullet construction
relevant to a Zoo environment
4. Selecting rifle calibers and
appropriate ammunition for
various species and
conditions
5. Rifle and optics setup according
to caliber and intended use i.e.:
species of animal and location
6. Rifle handling techniques incl:
shooting positions, shooting at
night and carry options
7. Emergency response and Zoo
protocols i.e: shooting on site and
animal escape procedures
8. Animal behaviour and
movement, Anatomy and Shot
placement for various species
incl: lion, tiger, leopard, bears,
elephant, rhino, primates and
hoof stock etc.
9. How to approach dangerous
animals with the intention of
either taking a shot or guide a vet
into position to safely dart an
animal
10. “After the shot” animal behavior
and follow up ie: back up shot,
wounded dangerous animals
11. Firearm maintenance, storage
and what accessories are useful
within a zoo environment.

Day 2 - Practical Training
Day 3 - Assessment
This price includes:
· Three full days of instruction and training.
· An “Advanced Firearm Handling” handbook relevant to Park’s and Zoo’s
for each participant.
· A copy of “The Perfect Shot” book which can be kept by the Zoo/Park
for their firearm team.
· Anatomically correct targets for the practical training days.
· A certificate is issued to each participant after they have successfully
passed both theory and practical modules.
Please note that the above 3-day course excludes:
Travel and accommodation for the instructors to your Park/Zoo for the
duration of the course.
Range hire
Firearms and ammunition to be supplied by the Park/Zoo, this allows
participants to use firearms they would be using in an emergency.
Ammunition required per. person for the course: 20 rounds small
caliber (.222 - .243), 20 rounds medium caliber (eg: .270, .308 or 30-06),
15 rounds large caliber (greater than.375 cal.), 20 shotgun shells
(buckshot), 5 shotgun slugs, 10 rounds for handgun.
Note - Should you want to attend a course that is run at either of our Kent based facilities we are able to provide firearms and ammunition @ £ 120.00 p/p as well as accommodation from £95.00 p/p sharing at the Pinewood Pods, each Pod sleeps 2 adults comfortably.
